After school I did my military service at the German
Air Force in the Netherlands and then at a German location, where primarily anti-aircraft missiles have been checked and modified. In the following years I passed my study in mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen. This university with a
long tradition is number one in Germany for engineering degrees. My study was rather focused on fundamental disciplines than on specialized ones. My choice covered the range of thermodynamics, process technology, thermal transmission,
nonlinear dynamic systems, etc. The study was finalized with the degree of a ‘Diplom-Ingenieur’. During my study I was also employed as a student assistant at the Institute of Fluid Power, Transmission and Control in Aachen. During that time
I have made myself familiar with the design of electronic circuits, analogue as well as digital. In addition I started to write software in different codes. See the ‘skills’ section for details. At this Institute (today IFAS) I was then
employed as a post graduate research engineer to work on a project funded by the German governement. The results have been used to prepare a thesis leading to the graduation ‘Doctor of Engineering’ with the highest possible grade ‘summa cum
laude’. After that I had a number of training courses in the field of Customer Focus, Six Sigma Quality, Phase Gate Project Management and also a Gustav-Kaeser-Training in Management
