This is the famous Golden Triangle, where the river Mae Sai (left) flows into the Mekong. This seperates the three countries Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. The area is well known for drug production (heroine and opium), about 300 tons per year. The drug dynasties hold their own armies up there.
