Originating from the jungle in Burma the tribe of the Baduang also settled close to the border in Thailand. From the age of young girls the women put rings of solid metal around the neck and more rings over time to ‘stretch’ the neck. While a few years ago the assumption was, that this method actually stretches the neck, recent research revealed that the entire part of the body around the shoulders is being compressed downward, which actually is a serious damage. The metal is also very heavy.
